Sullinger Enters Draft

Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger declared for the NBA Draft at a press conference at the Value City Arena Wednesday. The two-time Consensus All-American finishes with a career average of 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.  The sophomore lead the Big Ten in offensive rebounds and free throws the past two seasons.

At 6’9″ and 280 lbs., Sullinger offers a bruising style of offense. He can use his size to back down defenders fairly well. Defensively, though, he doesn’t have the speed to keep up with more nimble players like Anthony Davis. That means you can take him out of the game to some extent by running the floor. Conference opponents like Purdue found success on offense by setting high screens.

His size matches up to Glen “Big Baby” Davis (except Davis weighs in at 289 lbs.). I don’t think that’s a good thing. Of the 10-6’9″ power forwards who averaged 25+ minutes per game, Carlos Boozer weighed the most at 266 lbs. I would imagine Sullinger will need to drop a couple pounds if he hopes to get significant minutes in the NBA.

He’s projected as a top 10 pick in the June 28 draft.
