Mixtape: Jrue Holiday

It’s time to break from the beaten path with a current NBA’er for this Friday’s mixtape. We present to you Jrue Holiday of the Philadelphia 76ers by Matt Ennis. The song is “Ambition” by Wale (featuring Meek Mill and Rick Ross).

It’s been a down season for the third-year point guard (shooting below his career average in field goal and three point percentage), but at 21-years-old, you can expect some growing pains. And we use the phrase “growing pains” very loosely. Holiday’s 13.3 points and 4.5 assists per game is second best on the team in both categories. The Sixers can thank the backcourt combo of Holiday and Louis Williams for helping the team flirt with its first winning season since the 2004-05 campaign—Allen Iverson’s last full season in Philly.

With eight games left in the regular season, the Sixers sit at 31-27, good for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. It’s a tenuous spot, giving Philly a one-game lead over the New York Knicks for the eighth and final spot and a three-game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks, currently the odd-man out in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

If the playoffs started today, the the Sixers would find themselves playing the Miami Heat in the first round for the second consecutive season. The nWo Heat bounced the Sixers in five last spring. It’s going to take some ambition to knock off Miami.
